Our standards

Editorial Policy

The Hamilton Doghouse publishes practical, reader-focused stories about outings, events, dogs and time at home. This policy explains how we choose subjects, use sources, describe experiences and correct mistakes.

Research and sourcing

We begin with the reader's decision: what do they need to know, and which organization controls a time-sensitive detail? For venue entry, parking, transit, public lands and pet permissions, we prefer the responsible organization's current information. General advice is framed as editorial guidance, not as an official rule. When the primary source is unclear, we say so rather than filling the gap with a confident guess.

We do not fabricate visits, interviews, credentials, statistics, quotations, prices or policy language. Generated images are illustrative and captions avoid implying that they record a real venue or trip.

Writing and review

Each story should answer a distinct question in plain English. We check for internal consistency, misleading certainty, broken paths and opportunities to give readers a practical next step. Articles may use different structures because a checklist, itinerary and reflective essay solve different problems. The collective byline identifies the editorial desk; it should not be read as a claim that a named person visited every location.

Corrections and updates

Readers can flag errors through the contact page once the operator configures a real contact address. Please send the page name, the disputed passage and a source if available. We evaluate corrections against current primary information where possible. A small wording fix may be made directly; a substantial factual change should be reflected clearly in the article when the site is maintained. We do not attach an artificial 'last reviewed' date to every evergreen thought piece.

Links and independence

We link internally when another story answers a natural follow-up question. We link externally when a source, venue, park or independent guide helps a reader take a next step. Links are placed in the editorial context where they make sense. They do not belong in a hidden footer list. A link does not create a partnership or transfer editorial responsibility to the destination.

This site is delivered without advertising, affiliate tracking or sponsored content. If its business model changes, commercial relationships and any effect on editorial presentation should be disclosed clearly before publication. Readers should be able to distinguish advice, illustration and an official fact at a glance.
